Multimedia/Intermedia as a tool for Indigenous Knowledges and Desert Knowledges Research dissemination

  • Dr Sandy O'Sullivan, Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, Australia
  • Emerging from an Australian Teaching and Learning Council Associate Fellowship with Batchelor Institute, the presentation explores capacity-building research partnerships for Indigenous communities through alternative research dissemination processes such as multi/intermedia processes. In particular, the presentation examines strategies for Indigenous communities to partner with Indigenous research institutions in order to manage and disseminate culturally-appropriate research outcomes.
In this Desert Knowledges-focused presentation of the findings, the pan-Indigenous conflation of Indigenous Knowledge and Desert Knowledge Systems is also examined for both convergent and divergent strategies of managing Indigenous cultural product, while retaining ownership and promoting recognition of Indigenous peoples.
