The Full Monty: Taking a Value Chain Approach to Bush Products Research
Commercial activity for the Australian bush foods industry is founded primarily on traditional Aboriginal knowledge of the collection, preparation and uses of the resources. While many of the plants used are sourced from the desert, few desert Aboriginal people have engaged successfully in market-based commercial ventures. This presentation will discuss the links between research, capacity building and knowledge brokering used within a value chain framework by the DKCRC Bush Products Project to develop greater equity positions for Aboriginal people in the industry. In particular, the presentation will focus on the outcomes of two specific capacity building strategies undertaken in 2008.
