Waltja's Nintiringtjaku Initiative

  • Kate Lawrence, Waltja Tjutangku Palyapayi Aboriginal Association, Australia
  • Nintiringtjaku work is a Waltja initiative to enable senior Aboriginal people to support good training and research on their remote communities while gaining skills, accreditation and fair pay for their work.
Ninitringtjaku workers support visiting trainers or researchers by
o planning and promoting the community visits
o introducing the trainer/researcher and encouraging community engagement
o Helping everybody to communicate well, to understand and to share knowledge
o Helping to get community feedback about the training or research.

Waltja provides ongoing training and accreditation for Nintiringtjaku nominees, with assistance from Desert Knowledge CRC and DEET NT. In this presentation Nintiringtjaku workers and Waltja staff will reflect on their learning through Nintiringtjaku projects.
