Domestic 4WD Tourists: Viewing Their Photographs in the Desert
The study explored domestic tourist 4WD experiences in desert Australia to shed light on market issues facing desert Aboriginal people involved in tourism. Photographs taken by participants during a 4WD tag along tour were analysed in order to understand the tour from participant experiences. Photographs highlighted that participants had a detailed knowledge of desert contexts, liked to demonstrate unique insights and maintained perspectives according to their life stories. The results implied insularity, despite a demonstrated awareness by participants of Aboriginal issues. The study provides unique insights into the social contexts of domestic markets and Aborigines in tourism.
