Networking towards critical mass on the far west coast of South Australia
The West Coast Aboriginal Network (WestCAN) was formed with Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre Core Project 3. The aims of CP3 Desert Biz are to deliver livelihoods for desert people based on natural and cultural resources. WestCAN include these aims by bringing together Aboriginal communities in the Ceduna region to share knowledge, thereby creating a level of capacity that builds critical mass. Action research is used by WestCAN and the University of South Australia to look for business opportunities, seek funding and create possibilities for commercial enterprises. Fledgling businesses include tourism, cultural awareness training and the production of bush products.
