Charting the implications for government and industry: conclusions from a study into Aboriginal enterprise in remote and regional Australia

  • Louise Moylan, University of Adelaide, Australia
  • Research into forms of Aboriginal enterprise indicated they are closely intertwined with both mainstream society and Aboriginal culture. Forty seven Aboriginal enterprise owners and/or managers from remote and regional areas across five states participated in a Grounded Theory research project.
Aboriginal enterprises connect five building blocks together through unique accretion as part of a whole process. As a consequence, any polices and support should recognise differences between each enterprise, on a case-by-case basis. This may involve local solutions, using ideas from mainstream small business, connecting Aboriginal enterprise to wider social issues and encouraging personal motivations.
