  • Our objective is to build regional food security in the Sahel by promoting the cultivation of, and markets for, Australian Acacia seed. Engagement over the past six years has resulted in enthusiastic adoption of Acacia, but larger markets are needed for the seed. We believe that the food-aid sector holds considerable promise.

We present to the symposium a nutrient-dense, ready-to-eat food product, aimed to have broad appeal, based on Acacia and other ingredients, all readily available in semi-arid Africa. We argue that the Sahel, a famine-prone area could become a net exporter of food whilst reversing decades of environmental decline.
