The Desert Knowledge CRC Sustainable Desert Settlements project aims to understand how different types of desert settlements work, and from this understanding advance ideas that inform both policy and desert groups about key factors that affect their sustainable future. The paper presents learning to date drawing on findings from across several of its field sites across Desert Australia. Methodological challenges, themes and the challenge of building on emergent knowledge are discussed.
